Detective Luke is a highly professional detective…who just happens to be a dog! He and his two sons, Leo and Baron, lead lives of busting crime and enforcing justice. Nowhere in that routine did Luke plan on babysitting, so when his owners agree to watch an Akita named Bernard, Luke is anything but happy. His resentment of Bernard reaches its peak when mysterious thefts begin popping up all over town, including the disappearance of Luke’s dog bowl! Is Bernard the culprit? Or is someone else to blame? One thing’s for sure—Luke and his sons have another exciting mystery on their paws!

Excerpt:
The Akita stepped up behind me. “Hello, Wiener,” he said with extreme dislike in his voice.

“Wiener is my name no more,” snapped the Dachshund. “Now I am Winner!”

“Well, Winner-Wiener, you’re not welcome here,” Bernard said with great authority, as if he were the one in charge.

“Whoa, hold on, boys, I don’t know what’s going on here,” I cut in, “but I’m in charge of this house! Therefore, I’m in charge of who’s welcome and who’s not. And do you know what I say? Neither of you are welcome. Beat it.”

“But I need your help,” whined Winner-Wiener.

“I thought you needed food,” I answered pointedly. “Any dog in this neighborhood has food.”

“But I don’t just need food,” Winner-Wiener argued. “I need…a detective.”

“Oh! Well, then you’ve come to the right place,” I informed him with less sternness in my voice. “But I must warn you that I don’t just do work for anyone. I barely even know who you are, Winner-Wiener.”

“Please, just call me Winner,” the Dachshund pleaded. “Listen, getting back to my problem, I need you to solve a mystery for me.”

“Don’t work with this guy,” Bernard urged me. “He’s as close to a street dog as a domestic dog can get.”

I stopped at that. Street dogs are a nasty sort, the nastiest of all if you don’t count alley cats.

But then I looked at Winner and decided he was just…just…I don’t know, but he was just too something to be a street dog. Plus, when had I placed my trust in Bernard? Never, that’s when, so why should I believe him in this instance?

“What’s the nature of this mystery?” I inquired.

“It’s simple. My dog bowl disappeared,” Winner stated.
